RuthAnne Releases Neo-Soul, R&B Single ‘Unrequited’ – Out Now

Taking inspiration from the neo-soul / R&B movement which mainly came out of Philadelphia in the late 90’s & early 00’s through legendary artists like Jill Scott, Jasmine Sullivan, Musiq Soulchild & John Legend. RuthAnne pens a relatable scenario into a smooth classic neo-soul single with a contemporary R&B feel. Her mesmerising soulful tone sounds effortless over the strings and sultry bass production.

Tastemaker DJ MistaJam will be releasing his remix of ‘Unrequited’ on August 30th whilst RuthAnne will be headlining Hoxton Square Bar & Kitchen on October 16th, tickets on sale now.

Co-written and produced with LA based Noah Breakfast (Ty Dolla $ign / Christine And The Queens) and mixed by Jay Reynolds (Dua Lipa / Paloma Faith), RuthAnne explains: “I wrote the lyrics of ‘Unrequited’ when I was in this repetitive pattern of the classic ‘He’s not that into me’. But then guys would come along that were so into me and I wasn’t into them at all. So I found it such an interesting concept to talk about both sides of it. And how we all break hearts and get broken hearted until we find the one.

Additionally, Ruthanne says: “I went in to write with Noah Breakfast & as soon as he started playing the chords, I immediately grabbed the lyrics I’d written and started singing the melody, like a stream of consciousness. I feel like this song shows more of my 90’s R&B Jill Scott/Brandy influences and I have always wanted to incorporate the Jackie Wilson sample ‘To Be loved’ as that scene of Eddie Murphy in ‘Coming to America’ is my fave. It really sums up the concept of how we all just want to love and be loved but sometimes it just doesn’t work that way but it’s all part of the journey, so you take it on the chin and keep going. The love is out there.”

‘Unrequited‘ follows well-received singles ‘Superman’ and ‘Love Again’. ‘Superman’ was MistaJam’s ‘Record Of The Week’ on BBC 1Xtra. On release, ‘Love Again’ featured in 13 ‘New Music Friday’ Spotify playlists globally including UK and US and reached No.2 in Tik Tok’s UK Hot 40 playlist. Her previous release ‘The Vow’ was played during ITV 2’s huge TV show Love Island 2019 Final – it was Shazammed seven thousand times within the hour, and reached #1 in the main Irish chart and #37 in the UK chart. RuthAnne’s material has now amassed over twelve million streams so far. She has received accolades from influential media including The Independent, New York Times, Paper Magazine, The Times, Billboard, Wonderland, Complex, Idolator, DIY and CLASH. RuthAnne previously won ‘Woman Of The Year’ at the Irish Tatler Awards and was VEVO’s ‘Artist Of The Month’ last year. She also performed for MTV PUSH live event in London and was a part of global clothing brand Barbour International’s summer session series this year, which was hosted by James McVey (The Vamps)

RuthAnne’s astounding career spans back to being 17-years-old, penning music for huge pop artists, including JoJo’s ‘Too Little Too Late,’ for which RuthAnne achieved the ASCAP Songwriters ‘Best Pop Song’ award. From then she wrote a string of hit records from Britney Spears’ RIAA platinum-certified ‘Work Bitch’ to One Direction’s ‘Where Do Broken Hearts Go’, Pentatonix’s ‘Misbehavin’ and Martin Garrix & Bebe Rexha’s In The Name Of Love’.

In 2017 she co-wrote 5 songs on Niall Horan’s debut solo album ‘Flicker,’ including US #1 hit ‘Slow Hands’ – which she received a BMI award for – and as a songwriter her songs have been streamed over 4 billion times. She has also co-wrote Niall’s upcoming single ‘Nice To Meet Ya’, out in September.

RuthAnne has also supported Alanis Morrissette, Niall Horan, Third Story, X Ambassadors, Hozier and Keywest on tour. This year she headlined Blue Balls Festival (Switzerland) and shows in London and Ireland as well as performed at Live At Leeds, Liverpool Sound City, The Great Escape in the UK. She’s also performed at Kaleidoscope Festival (Ireland), Home Festival (Italy), Sziget Festival (Hungary) and sold-out an intimate show at The Hotel Café (Los Angeles, USA). RuthAnne is set to headline Hoxton Square Bar & Kitchen and perform at Tenement Trial Festival in October.

RuthAnne continues to produce incredibly compelling and relatable music that are an exciting indication of what’s to come from her highly anticipated debut album – out October 2019.
